Dinner was a highlight, with a great menu and attentive service, and breakfast had plenty of choice. We also liked the comfortable beds, welcoming lobby, heated ski lockers, and central location. We arrived during a snowstorm while Olympic construction had left the town in rough shape. The front desk team was terrific and found one of the last underground parking spots, though it cost 40 euros a night. I’d called ahead after booking a double room online to ask about an extra bed. Lumina kindly arranged a no-cost upgrade to a family room, but that wasn’t in the computer when we got there. With the hotel sold out, the first options involved a bed and sofa beds. Manager Guiseppe kept looking and found a last-minute cancellation, so we ended up in a larger room with three proper beds. He also checked that we were looked after while it was being sorted out. Big thanks to Guiseppe and the friendly Alaska Cortina crew, including Riccardo, Paulo, Lumina, and the wait staff. We had a really good stay and would book again.

The parking was the main drawback. The hotel garage costs $40 euros a night, while the free option is about four blocks away, which is a hassle in cold weather. We paid $120 euros over three days and didn’t even move the car. I’d recommend including parking with the stay. Otherwise, we had a good experience at the hotel.

Being right in the city center was handy, but we wouldn’t return. The room seemed worn and dusty even after it had been cleaned, and with centrally controlled air conditioning it stayed hot through the heatwave. We barely slept. Parking cost €40, and rust dripped onto our white car and ruined the paint. We spent ages being sent between spots by a staff member, then were told later we had to move the car again. The staff were dismissive and unhelpful. They said the lift wasn’t working, though it clearly was. Breakfast was poor too: stale croissants, questionable sausages, and nothing that seemed fresh or appealing. We stayed one night, and that was enough.

The view was lovely, the internet worked well, and breakfast was great. But there was no kettle in the room or room service beyond breakfast. It felt a little expensive for what you got. I’m not sure whether prices were higher because of the Paralympics, and there was no airport transfer available.

The construction work wasn’t clearly disclosed before our stay, and one male staff member was very rude, with no sense of customer friendliness. I chose this Cortina hotel because it was listed as four-star, but the experience didn’t live up to that rating. Very disappointing for a place claiming four stars.
