Hotel Sassongher

Those complimentary bus passes came in handy when we wanted to begin or finish a hike outside town, and when we didn’t fancy walking back up the hill to the hotel. We also loved the breakfast and dinner. After hiking, the rooftop hot tub and sauna were a treat, and our view was beautiful. The staff were warm, helpful, and knowledgeable, especially Paula and Annie. We had a fantastic 4 nights.

Paula, the concierge, helped us find hikes, arrange a babysitter, and shared plenty of useful tips. Everyone made us and our one year old feel like family, and the staff were especially sweet with our son at breakfast and dinner. Both meals were delicious. Our room was spacious and clean, with a lovely balcony. The only thing to keep in mind is that the hotel sits at the far end of town, so hikes start a little farther away. We had a fabulous summer stay at Hotel Sassongher and highly recommend both the hotel and Corvara as a base for a few days of exploring and hiking.

The pool area had a stale cigarette smell, and I found no hot water in the spa showers downstairs. When I took an early shower at 05:30am, there was no hot water there either. The rooms also let in enough sound that other guests may wake you. The place has a charming setting and lovely decor, and breakfast was nice, but it has some major flaws.

The bar had a live pianist and singer, whose music and voice were great without being too loud. Breakfast, the ski shuttle, and the friendly staff all added to a stay that exceeded our expectations. Everyone was amiable, from reception to housekeeping. This was my first time in Corvara and at hotel Sassongher, though my eighth visit to the Dolomites. My five friends and I usually choose 4/5 star places, and the service here was better than we expected. Huge compliments to everyone at the Sassongher Hotel, it was one of our best stays.
