Hotel Astoria

The rooms are spacious and stylish, and the bathroom is too. Breakfast was a good continental spread, with freshly baked croissants. The hotel is lovely and right in the old town, just a five-minute walk from the main square. You can’t reach it by car, though, and finding it takes a bit of effort.

The room was quiet and had air conditioning. The bathroom facilities are new, though the hot water tank only holds five gallons. There’s a refrigerator but no microwave, and the hotel has neither accessibility facilities nor an elevator. We booked for two and a half weeks. The central location is handy for shops and places to eat, but the room service was very unreliable. There’s no set time for the maid, so it’s hard to plan your day around the service. We had toilet paper but no facial tissues, and if you stay more than a few days, there may be no room service at all.

The bed was comfortable, the hotel was clean, and the shower was strong and hot. It’s centrally located, with everything within walking distance. The downside was the noise: our room, or possibly another one, was above a bar with outdoor tables, and it stayed very loud until the bar closed late at night. Breakfast left a lot to be desired.

We’d recommend this hotel in general, but not for a stay with a baby. It has a nice boutique feel, and our room was spacious and clean. In the old city, a quiet spot can be hard to find, and here there’s a bar-restaurant right below the windows that stays open until 1am, so it was noisy until then. The restaurant is very good, though, with nice starters and good cocktails, so the location has its upside too.
