Absolutely amazing!

We paid for an economy double and weren't expecting a suite, but the room still needed basic comfort, cleanliness, and care. The two single mattresses pushed together weren't comfortable, and the minibar was locked. The TV looked ancient, and the blinds only closed on one side. The website showed two or three rooms that looked completely different from ours, so be wary of this hotel. I've read similar reviews, and the response is that guests haven't seen every room and economy rooms are meant to be like this. We haven't seen the others either, but we can judge the room we were given and paid for. We often stay in three star economy rooms and haven't found any hotel in this condition. For less money, I would have chosen a hostel. We were only passing through and stayed two nights, fortunately. The first thing we noticed on entering was an almost unbearable musty smell. The room itself felt like a period room, with dated furniture, several carpet stains, a yellow toilet seat, and hot water that didn't reach the bidet. Wooden pallets had been put between the mattress and the box spring, and the walls had cracks in several places. The pillows had yellow and brown marks, though luckily we had our own pillows with us. Breakfast was meager. The biscuits seemed like they might have been there for months, the croissants felt like cigarette butts, and the juice looked and tasted like colored water. The whole place lacked hygiene and attention to detail. Every time we went out and came back, we found the receptionist only once. When it was time to leave, nobody was there to take the keys. I rang the bell, but no one came, so I left them on the counter. And a special mention to the historical figures we met in this ancient hotel, like Garibaldi and Napoleon!

The staff were genuinely courteous and always ready to help. They tried to make up for a place that, in my view, feels out of date. The rooms had paper thin walls, so we could hear the neighbors, and the double bed was uncomfortable, with twin mattresses at different heights. The carpeting was in awful shape, the bathrooms were bleak, and the windows did nothing to block heat or sound. At night, the ring road noise came straight through. Ventilation barely worked and brought unpleasant smells into the room. There was hardly any comfort in these rooms.
