I came away feeling cheated. We were charged for an extra bed, yet basic things didn’t work: the drains wouldn’t flush and we had to buy our own toilet paper. The advertised pool wasn’t available, there was no breakfast, and the place wasn’t clean. The road in felt dangerous, and the stay was expensive for such poor service. There was a charcoal grill, but no charcoal. I wouldn’t recommend this accommodation to anyone.

Our family of five, including three kids, had a lovely stay at Borgo Macereto. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and had an authentic feel. Ilaria was kind and ready to help, and the wine was amazing. The pool was big and very clean. The property sits in quiet hills about 4 km from Dicomano, with good restaurants and vineyard agriturismos nearby. We found the road perfectly manageable in a regular car, despite what some other reviews say; just stay calm and keep going until you reach beautiful Borgo Macereto. It’s around 45-90 minutes by car from several major Tuscan sights. We also enjoyed driving up through Parco Nazionale delle Foreste Casentinesi to see waterfalls, with hardly any foreign tourists around. We happily recommend it.

Our Airbnb host suggested a wine tasting at Borgo Macereto while we were staying in Chianti last July, and it made for a lovely morning. It was just us with Ilaria, which made the visit feel especially personal. She told us about the property and the wines, and put together a beautiful spread of charcuterie, fruit, bruschetta, and homemade jams. We bought honey and olive oil, then shipped a case of wine back to NYC. Thanks, Ilaria!

The views from this quiet, very clean Tuscan spot are gorgeous. We found the pool a little cold, though it was great in the summer heat. Getting there was the drawback: the road felt a bit dangerous, and I’d say you need an SUV. The kitchen was also missing basics like oil, salt, and sugar.
