Le Contrade Tropea

Brattirò is a beautiful little village, and I still think so, but our stay at this property was awful. The rooms were dirty, with cobwebs everywhere, and spiders crawling over us at night. When I raised the spider issue, the owner said I could have mentioned it straight away and he would have disinfected the room. That doesn’t change the fact that rooms should be kept clean, even in the countryside with pets around. We had to leave, and although we didn’t ask for a refund, they could at least have given us some kind of receipt. Breakfast was another problem. The products seemed recycled, and I opened one of the croissants that was put out each morning. It tasted stale, like it was from the day before. When you run a B&B, cleanliness in the rooms has to come first. Dirt can’t be excused. The inconveniences also soured my otherwise positive opinion of Brattirò. Terrible experience, I don’t recommend it.

We spent half the morning dealing with an ant invasion, and left without breakfast after only grabbing a quick coffee. Ants had got into all our things, including my son's syrups, which were unopened but had to be thrown away. After we told a staff member, we had to clean everything ourselves for an hour and a half. Nobody came to check what was happening or offer help. The owner, whom I called right away, showed up an hour and a half later and seemed unconcerned. She even made us feel at fault for having the syrups in the room. My son had also left a tambourine he'd just bought in the garden, but we never found it again. There were no other children there besides him and the owner's children. After we complained repeatedly, the owner seemed annoyed and left money on the table for the two syrups she'd said were worth that amount. What about all the time we lost, the disruption, and the breakfast we missed? Neither the staff nor the owner showed us any consideration. It's a beautiful place, but we'll never go back. They really need to change how they treat customers.

We felt right at home in the comfortable, clean room, and breakfast was delicious. It’s surrounded by nature and quiet, a good place to switch off and relax. Tropea’s lovely beach is just 10 minutes away.

It’s a peaceful spot not far from the sea, and the setting is beautiful. It also works well for a big group.
