Le Mulinare - Bed & Breakfast

The owners were friendly, breakfast was very good, and the room was spotless. We had AC and towels, and quite a few people understood English. The difficult part was getting to the accommodation: it's up a hill, about 40 minutes on foot from Tropea, so walking there was almost impossible for us. There were two of us, and we always managed to find a car willing to give us a lift to town and back.

Breakfast was served every morning from 9 to 10, and the clean rooms had air conditioning. There’s parking, too. The place sits on a hill with a beautiful view, just a few km from the sea. A nice spot to stay.

The mattress was genuinely comfortable, and the location was good, only a few minutes from Tropea. The road there is very steep and winding. The cleaning lady was kind and helpful, though the rooms need more attention. Breakfast was fine, nothing special. We chose the place partly because of its high cleanliness rating, but the room didn't match that at all. On arrival the toilet was dirty, there were toothpaste splashes on the mirror, tiles and door, hair all over the floor and furniture, and a sandwich in the fridge. We told the cleaning lady straight away. She apologized, cleaned the toilet and vacuumed, and said the room would be thoroughly cleaned the next day. It was cleaned, but the toothpaste marks were still there, so we bought toothpaste and scrubbed them ourselves to avoid more hassle. We'd booked at the last minute and got the accessible room because the others were occupied. I understand some features are arranged for wheelchair access, but a bit more care would still help. There was no bidet, so we had to shower from the waist down each time. The fittings for a handheld shower were already there, so why not add one? They could at least have mentioned this when we booked. There was nowhere to put our things: no closet, just a dresser and two bedside tables, and no bathroom cabinet either. The TV decoder was left hanging awkwardly, though a small shelf would have fixed that. I'm writing this as criticism to help them improve. I gave it two stars instead of one because the location and the owner's kindness counted for something.
