At first the place is very charming, but I can't recommend it. I was looking to rent the apartment long-term. After viewing it and reaching a verbal agreement, I was told it would be reserved for me. Things changed as soon as I said I needed a minimum three-month trial period. It became hard to communicate, and eventually I was told the apartment had already been rented and wasn't available anymore. To me, that wasn't serious or professional.

There were problems in several areas. The apartment at the top of the tower had no Wi-Fi signal, despite Wi-Fi being advertised throughout the property. We never met the hosts. Check-in details came by text and the keys were left in the door, then it was almost impossible to contact anyone. Since the property is quite remote, more communication would have been welcome. We were also anxious to discover that our passports had never been copied or submitted, which is a breach of Italian law. That made it harder to deal with the other issues. The pool for the apartments was cloudy enough that, on arrival, we couldn't see beyond the first rung of the ladder. Nobody warned us. When we called, we were told heavy rain had caused it and that we could use the other pool, which we understood was for the villa. We felt a bit uncomfortable about that, since we don't think the villa guests knew. That second pool was cleaner, though there was still quite a bit of algae on its floor and sides. The room was spacious and seems to have been very nice once, but now feels neglected. The air conditioning dripped and wasn't really powerful enough for the size of the room, so we kept it running much of the time to hold the temperature at 23-24C. There was no kettle for tea or coffee. The bathroom was clean except for quite a bit of mould in the shower. Bugs were the worst part: we never opened the windows, yet mosquitoes still got in, and one night we even saw a lizard inside.

Francesco was so nice and made us feel very welcome, and we really enjoyed the garden and swimming pool. We stayed in the top apartment of Villa Somelli, which was perfect and had everything we needed, plus a fantastic panoramic view. The train station is five minutes away by car, with parking there for 3 euros. Firenze, Lucca and Siena are all beautiful and within an hour. Just remember the last train is around 21.20! Thanks for everything. We hope to come back sometime soon.

The views are amazing, and the people are really friendly. Being away from the main roads makes it so quiet that you can fully relax. The apartment was clean and had all the basics. I'd definitely recommend staying here.
