Hotel Ristorante Vapore

The ferry stop is just 200m from reception, which is a big plus if you’re using that way to get around. The hosts are very friendly, and it’s a nice boutique hotel with a great lake view right from the room. The rooms are tidy, though the bathroom wasn’t as clean. The main inconvenience is all the steps you have to climb to get to the main road and bus station.

The view makes the affordable price feel like a bargain, and the place turned out better than we expected after reading the reviews. Our deluxe lake view room was really a family room with an extra bed. The table and chairs worked well for relaxing with drinks and snacks. There are three restaurants or bars around, but getting between places without a car could be difficult. The beach bar has drinks, light meals, and sunbeds. The hotel restaurant was okay, and breakfast was simple. The room’s main problems were a smelly toilet and no soundproofing. I’d strongly suggest improving the toilet, since it’s a basic part of accommodation at any star rating. The hotel is near the end of the street, so there isn’t much traffic. It can be quiet if you’re lucky, but that depends entirely on the neighbors. One night, a neighbor got up at 4:48 am and left. She was polite and whispered to her companion, but without soundproofing I could hear every word. Another night there was thunder and dogs barking. Earplugs might help. Still, the view makes up for a lot.

We had dinner at the restaurant, and both the food and service were amazing. I spent two nights here and everything was great. Highly recommended.

Beautiful location, and the hotel and bar were fabulous. The restaurant was unfortunately closed when we arrived on Tuesday. Getting around may not suit everyone: the roads are very narrow, with tight turns and hairpin bends, and bus access may also be an issue. I was glad I was used to similar roads in Ireland. If you’re a nervous driver or taking public transport, it may be worth getting the water taxi or ferry from Como.
