Hotel Elisabeth due

The place itself was clean, and the nearby seaside and water were clean too, though that has nothing to do with the hotel. The building is old and not especially fancy, which wouldn’t be a big issue by itself, but this isn’t a four-star hotel, maybe two stars. Breakfast was poor, with mediocre quality, and there was nothing to pick it up with except your hands. The staff did the bare minimum, and the waiter spent a lot of the breakfast hour chatting with her friends instead of working. The pillows were too soft, and the toilet paper that was there wasn’t new. When we arrived, the bathroom had several problems: a leaky shower head, a leaky bidet, and a clogged drain. They only fixed the shower head the next day. We arrived late, so perhaps check it beforehand.

The staff were wonderful and accommodating, the beds comfortable even for a fussy sleeper like me, and everything was very clean. The location is a big plus, with the beach just steps away, restaurants nearby, and a sweet café bar down an avenue. Breakfast is basic but enjoyable, and there are parking spaces all around. A pool would make it even better, but the council won’t allow one at the moment, though that could change. The sea is warm, and tea and coffee in the room would be nice. I’d definitely stay again. We’re in our late 50s. When the sun’s out, it’s a haven for children too, close to things like a bouncy castle on the seafront and park areas. There was a circus at the weekend, though I’m not sure how regularly.

This was our eighth visit, which we make every two years. The hotel has now been fully and beautifully refurbished. It works for both tourists and business travelers, right by the sea, and has an award-winning restaurant. The rooms are spacious, air-conditioned, and have Sky TV. Highly recommended.

The double room felt too cramped for two adults and a baby, and breakfast was quite poor, with the same choices every day. The location is very good, close to the sea and about a 15-minute walk from the city center.
