Masseria Montenapoleone

The room itself, a Superior Suite Deluxe, was comfortable, and the property is undeniably beautiful. The architecture, olive groves, and grounds are peaceful and photogenic. But the stay felt overpriced for the hospitality, comfort, and experience we got, and we wouldn't return. Service often came across as transactional instead of warm or attentive. Communication before and during the visit was slow and inconsistent, and responsiveness and hospitality didn't match the premium price. The curated experiences also didn't feel as intimate as they appeared online. The food wasn't bad, but it was consistently underwhelming for the cost and presentation, and nothing about it stayed with us. Our suite still had a family suite above it, so evenings could be loud, with children running and jumping on furniture and moving things around overhead. Dinner Under the Fig Tree was promoted as romantic and intimate, but it was close to the main property and guest rooms, where children were playing and running. The food was decent, but at that price it left no lasting impression. We wouldn't recommend it. At the vineyard aperitivo, we ordered an extra drink beyond the package. Instead of putting it on our room, staff sent us back to the restaurant to pay and asked whether we'd ordered only one. The property also had no iron or steamer ready for guests and directed us to an overpriced pressing and laundry service. Breakfast felt awkward for a luxury stay: we had to ask staff behind a counter for basic items one by one, and even getting more morning drinks could be harder than it needed to be. The setting has enormous potential, but the visual appeal didn't carry through to the hospitality. Sometimes the atmosphere felt overly staged and disconnected from the rural character of the Masseria. It also seemed to be trying to be a luxury resort, wedding venue, organic farm, and countryside retreat all at once, without any of those identities feeling fully realized. I think it would be stronger if it leaned into its traditional farm roots instead of focusing so much on curated looks and social media appeal. We travel often and have stayed at many boutique luxury properties around the world, which may be why the gap between presentation and actual service stood out. We really wanted to love it, but this ended up being the most disappointing part of an otherwise wonderful trip through Puglia.

It felt like guests were treated as cash cows, with little Italian warmth or hospitality. The rooms had fewer amenities than a Holiday Inn: no hair conditioner, iron, water, or coffee. If you expect things to be included in your stay, this isn't the place. Even the property bikes cost extra. I've never stayed at a farmhouse before where bikes weren't included for getting around the grounds. Poor service, and I wouldn't recommend it.

Every detail at Masseria Montenapoleone felt just right, and the whole stay had a timeless quality. The staff were wonderful and made us feel welcome. We were especially impressed by the food, from the excellent breakfast to the restaurant. Highly recommended.

The quiet seclusion is part of what makes Masseria Montenapoleone special, though you'll need a car to visit the nearby towns and beaches. Surrounded by olive groves, vineyards, and the sounds of nature, it feels like a peaceful slice of Apulia. The rooms mix rustic character with thoughtful artistic touches, and the place feels rooted and real. The staff were kind and attentive, making the stay feel personal and relaxed. Mornings brought the smell of herbs and a wonderful farm-fresh breakfast, with a few cats wandering about lazily. We can't wait to return. Cinzia & Steven (Aug 2025)
