The balcony was a nice place to sit, and the road below it was quiet. The room itself has just the basics, with some storage and a bathroom that was kept clean and tidy. Soap and toilet paper were replenished daily as needed. I found the mattress and pillow quite hard, though, and didn't sleep comfortably. The wall-mounted hairdryer was awkward, especially with thick hair, so ask reception for one with a cord. If you're sensitive to light, bring a sleep mask: in summer it gets through the curtains easily. Check the balcony floor too, as previous guests may have left things like cigarette butts. There's no TV, but there’s plenty to explore in the valley. The family-run place is quiet and welcoming, and the owners try to meet reasonable requests. For what’s provided, the price feels fair. It’s not for anyone expecting a luxury spa holiday, but it works well as a place to rest between adventures around the mountains. The hotel sits on Fino del Monte’s main square, where you can catch a bus to towns in the upper Val Seriana, including Clusone and Bratto. Rovetta is also within walking distance, as is Parco di Res, recently renovated with trees and wooden sculptures. There’s no private parking, but several lots are nearby. Motorcyclists have dedicated parking, and the owners may also let you keep your bike at their residence for shelter. There’s a café downstairs for coffee and brioche at breakfast, and Rovetta has other places to eat. The restaurant is upstairs and only serves lunch. I didn’t get to try it, but people speak well of the food. If you want a simple, affordable base near Clusone, this could suit you.

I went without a car, and Centrale Hotel was a great base for exploring the many hiking routes in the Seriana Valley. After a short walk, it was nice to come back for lunch at the restaurant, where the food was well worth trying. It’s only open at lunchtime. My single room was spotless and surprisingly spacious, with a double bed. Lucrezia, Antonella, Venanzio, and Vincenza made me feel at home with their warmth and helpfulness. I stayed three nights, and it was an unforgettable experience. I’d happily recommend Centrale to anyone.

The price is excellent, and the place is quiet with friendly staff, so it’s a good option for a short stay. The rooms feel dated, though, and are short on comforts. There are no shutters or blinds, only a blackout curtain, and you can hear through the walls. The mattress was hard and uncomfortable.

That dinner in the cellar with Venanzio was the highlight: homemade food, plenty of wine, and stories about life and adventures that were fascinating and fun to listen to. The cooking from Vincenzina, Antonella’s mother, was simple and authentic, and we ate really well. Antonella, Lucrezia, and Venanzio looked after us like family, always smiling and attentive. The rooms were welcoming and we slept wonderfully. Everything felt perfect, and I can’t wait to come back. Don’t miss the cellar dinner.
