Hotel Bastimento

We'd give it 3.5/5. Check-in for Bastimento is handled at Hotel Mathis, and breakfast is served there too, about a two-minute walk away. Breakfast was a real highlight, with cold cuts, cheese, hard-boiled eggs, cereal, yogurt and plenty of sweets. The coffee at Mathis was excellent, and they were happy to bring as many cups as we wanted. The bed was comfortable, the linens and towels were nice, and there was plenty of closet space. Having outlets on both sides of the bed was especially handy on a longer trip. The main problem was the shower. There was plenty of hot water and good pressure, but the head sent out narrow, forceful streams that were nearly painful, like a Water Pik. It also left a large part of the body without water, so rinsing hair and skin was difficult. The room got quite hot, mostly because the water heater in the bathroom put out so much heat. Closing that door helped, but we still needed the bedroom window open to sleep. Our room faced a busy street, so loud traffic and conversations carried on late into the night and started again early in the morning.
