Mercure Rome Leonardo da Vinci Airport

The room itself was clean, with a comfortable bed and a large shower, though the corridors looked dingy. The hotel is well located near Fiumicino airport and has a convenient shuttle for an extra charge. Beds were comfortable, the bathroom was nice, and breakfast was decent and reasonably priced. It was paid at booking and started conveniently at 6:00 AM for early travelers. There was only one working plug in the room, though, and I couldn’t find a way to avoid the steps by the lobby elevators. I booked directly on the Mercure website, which promised a 5% discount for joining the Mercure club, but it wasn’t applied. When I contacted the hotel, they said they couldn’t do anything.

The room was clean and really spacious, and the shower had good pressure and temperature. Since it was open plan, though, a little water flooded into the room. Service was lovely: I checked in quite late for a stay of only a few hours, but the process was quick and the concierge was very helpful. Breakfast was nice, and I had a few minutes to eat before the shuttle ride to the airport, about eight minutes away. I don’t think the €6 shuttle fare was fair for such a short trip, especially since airport hotels I’ve stayed at before offered it free.

For a night before a morning flight from Rome, the hotel did the job. Reception was quick, professional, and very polite, and check-in went smoothly despite our late arrival. The hotel shuttle had stopped running by then. A tip for getting there: the regular taxi line outside the terminal is generally for trips into Rome. Cross the street and look for local taxis instead; they charged about €35 at a reasonable fixed rate for nearby airport hotels. Our standard room was clean and had a basic coffee and tea setup. The bathroom was a different story. There was just one bath towel for the two of us, and it had a very obvious stain. There were small containers of hand soap, but the shower’s body wash dispenser was empty. We tried calling customer service from the room phone, but the call wouldn’t connect. Breakfast was good and enough for us. In the morning, the hotel shuttle to the airport ran efficiently and cost a reasonable €12 for two people. I’d consider this place for a short, practical stop because of its location and travel convenience. Reception and breakfast were positive, but the bathroom’s cleanliness and supplies need significant improvement, and I wouldn’t expect a perfect hospitality experience.

The staff were welcoming, kind, and capable everywhere, and breakfast was pretty good. I’d like to give the place four stars, but the rooms need more updating and improvement. In late December, even with the heating turned all the way up, I was shivering in the morning under a thin blanket. I could feel a lot of cold coming in beneath the balcony doors. Light also slipped through between the wall and curtains, no matter how I adjusted the blinds. Noise insulation was another small but noticeable issue. I know the hotel is right at the end of a runway, but better windows could help. The mattresses felt a bit hard, though that comes down to personal preference.
