Villa Neroli

Really liked both of our stays here. The rooms are nice, the beds are great, and the service is friendly. Breakfast was good, and the restaurant serves great food later in the day. The gym is genuinely nice, and there’s also a great sauna and pool area. Too bad we didn’t have a tub.

We loved the dinners at the restaurant, with delicious food and excellent service, and breakfast was excellent too. The hotel has lovely grounds in a residential part of Florence, with a bus stop just a short walk away. It’s a little far from the center by bus. The hotel is very close to ZTL zones, so check the signs carefully if you drive nearby, or take public transport. Our room was mostly quiet, though not completely soundproof. We were next to the elevator but didn’t hear it. The shower floor could have been cleaner, which is why I took off a star.

In early March, we spent two nights at Villa Neroli. I booked and paid directly through the hotel’s website for a 60-square-metre connecting room for three people, which cost more. But when I got to the room, it was just a room with three beds, not the one I’d reserved. I went straight to reception, explained what had happened, and showed the Booking.com reservation. The staff member agreed I was right, but said nothing could be done at the time. Neither the hotel management nor Booking.com fixed the problem while we were there. They later wrote that the booking had come through their partners rather than their own system. I booked on their website and paid them directly, so I don’t think it’s my job to know where they sourced the room or take responsibility for that. The hotel itself was clean, the staff polite, and breakfast better than average. But there were loads of mosquitoes in and around the hotel, even though it was cold and still early March.

The quiet here was a welcome change after busy days in Florence. Rooms were comfortable and practical, and the staff were helpful and attentive. Breakfast and dinner at the restaurant were both very good. The main value for us was staying away from the city crowds. I didn’t find much reason to explore the surrounding area. Getting into town, especially when you have museum reservations, takes a bit of planning: ask reception to call a taxi, since Ubers aren’t readily available there. We were very happy with our choice.
