Hotel Alexander

The town is lively, with great food and amazing scenery, and there’s some epic cycling too. At the hotel, the beach is just feet away, the pool is beautiful, the rooms are great, and the staff are amazing. We got a wonderful family welcome. I can’t recommend it enough.

We’ve been back five times over the last decade, most recently in 2014, so there’s clearly something that keeps drawing us in. Hotel Alexander won’t be cheap, like other places on this Riviera, but I think you get value for your money. The spacious rooms aren’t state-of-the-art, but there’s plenty of room, and the swimming pool and closeness to the beach are good too. The restaurant is the real standout. I could eat my fill at breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the food was some of the most exquisite I’d ever tasted. Don’t go overboard at the starter buffet, because the first and main courses will blow your mind. In the evenings, we spent time at the snooker table, with the owners mingling among the guests. It’s unusual to see owners of a big hotel make that effort.

The kids were told on arrival that there was to be no ball play or playing in the pool because it was a relaxation area. Had we known, we’d have booked somewhere else. We’d saved all year for this holiday, and it was heartbreaking to see the children so gutted when it was too late to move. We spent most of our time at the beach to make up for it, but that’s not what we paid for. It seems better suited to couples or small families. After covid, we were left out of pocket for the pool holiday we wanted with our kids. The location was good and everything was very clean.

The room was a bit old and not the cleanest, and the bidet didn't work. Breakfast was mediocre and the staff could have been friendlier. Housekeeping was banging doors at 8 on a Saturday morning.
