Amalia Bakery Home

The room was cold, we were put in an accessible room, and there was no hot water. One bedside lamp was broken, and the fan was partly broken and very noisy. The bakery was shut on Sunday, so although we had breakfast coupons, we got neither breakfast nor a discount on the room. At least the neighboring Greek Taverna was delicious and had excellent service. Check-in was the worst I’ve ever had. We told the host we didn’t have WhatsApp and asked how to reach them when we arrived. He basically said that was our problem. My sister-in-law had to call from Canada to get hold of a guy and start the check-in process. We then had to wait for her to call again so someone could open the car gate, but it closed before we could get in. Fortunately, a guest was leaving and helped us. My sister-in-law had to call yet again to unlock the building door and our room door. This was at 4:30 p.m. on a Saturday, not after normal business hours.

The bakery was a real surprise, what a brilliant combination with the hotel. The hosts were lovely and flexible: they got up at 1 a.m. to let us in, and let us keep the room past checkout, then stay even longer in the common areas. We had a great stay and would happily come back.

The neighborhood is nice, communication was easy, and they handled my unusual request with real efficiency and charm. I slept very well. The rooms are new and spacious. On my first stay I booked the cheapest one, which was excellent and had a large bathroom. For my second visit I chose a room with a high-quality kitchen.

Our flight ran late, but the owner stayed up to check us in. The staff were really nice and tried to help whenever we needed it. We enjoyed our stay.
