La Darsena

The sea views are breathtaking, and the apartment was clean and well maintained. It was quiet during our visit, though the shipyard wasn't operating then. Staff were friendly, and despite our first contact being on WhatsApp, we had a positive impression. We stayed one night for a family break. The building is being renovated, so there were barriers and scaffolding; if it's for the building's beauty and safety, that's understandable. It's on the outskirts of Gallipoli, but still not far from the historic center on the peninsula. Pedestrian access from that area could be better, with the municipality adding accessible sidewalks. That didn't take away from our enjoyment. A bathroom welcome kit with soap and some restaurant-style condiments would be useful for hygiene and to reduce waste.

The room had a comfortable mattress, air conditioning and a refrigerator, but there were several problems. The bathroom smelled strongly of sewage, the balcony ceiling looked dangerous and could cause an accident, and there was no soundproofing between rooms. At 6:30 a.m. a strange, persistent noise, like water or pipes, woke us. Wi-Fi was listed in the information on the door, but there was none. I stayed one night with a friend in a double room with a side sea view. Having to pick up the keys at another property didn't seem right, though we could overlook it. The staff were kind, but didn't tell us that the walk to the Darsena was quite dangerous and had no sidewalks. We specifically asked if driving would be better, trusted their advice, and walked.

Without air conditioning, the place was UNLIVABLE, even though we paid relatively little. The apartment interior was quite nice, but there were signs of sagging on the balcony from the floor above, and on all the balconies on every floor. On arrival it felt like a sauna. We reported the AC problem, and staff promised to fix it that day. They made the same promise each day, but never fixed it during our 4-day stay. I cleaned it myself. The kitchen also lacked basics like oil and salt. Highly not recommended.

I'd give it 4.5 if Google allowed half ratings. It's a nicely made place, good for anyone needing a two-room apartment. We had a great time there with our two little girls. The location feels a bit isolated, but essential services are very close, around 150 meters away. You'll need a car to get to the beach, though there's a decent little cove by the marina just 20 meters away. We recommend it if you want independence.
