We went with family and friends, and the host was one of the highlights: kind, very friendly, and helpful. Her suggestions really helped us explore the area, so trust her advice. The Masseria has good amenities, and its setting and surroundings make it a great base. Nearly all the places worth seeing are under an hour away by car. The rooms are a little dark because of the historic building, but I recommend the stay.

The location is handy for the main sights, and we appreciated the fresh fruit, the powerful hairdryer they lent us, and the air conditioning. The Masseria has potential, but the way it’s run needs more care and passion. It took about ten minutes for anyone to welcome us after the GPS sent us to the wrong entrance. We knew there was no TV from the listing, so that was our mistake, but the Wi-Fi was barely usable and the shower swung between scalding and freezing. There was only one bin in the bathroom despite being told to recycle. The shared areas were so dim we needed a flashlight to get to our room. Its door wouldn’t lock, and the kitchen cutlery smelled old and musty. Breakfast looked plentiful, but much of it was packaged and set out in rusty containers, with no typical homemade options. The owner’s comment, “I’ve never made a dessert,” while there was a variety of supermarket cakes, added to that impression. The fruit was very good and, I think, homemade. The owner seemed kind and helpful at first. But when we asked about the beach we planned to visit, she nearly discouraged us, as though it were somewhere to avoid. Other guests seemed to get similar answers, steering them toward nearby beaches instead. Maybe it was just our appearance. We also felt she could be rather harsh with the employees. What bothered us most was being given a stained paper placemat for five days. I doubt it was literally the same one each day, since the stains were in different places, as the attached photos show. We were even told we were “not very refined” for folding them, though we thought we were helping. There are better ways to say that. Is it really necessary to reuse dirty paper placemats?

Want privacy and a chance to unwind? Settle into the apartment, then spend your time however you like, by the pool, having a barbecue, or heading out, with everything close by. Mirella feels like a mother, an aunt, one of us. Top!

It’s a clean, comfortable place, and the hosts are very friendly. The pool is spotless and fantastic, and the Masseria itself is beautiful and peaceful. The rooms are rather old and definitely dated, though that’s a matter of taste.

Nice enough for a day by the pool, but that’s about it. It’s the only spot with Wi-Fi, and the place feels like it’s in the middle of nowhere. On the walk along the main road into town, there were diapers and rubbish everywhere. The grounds are fairly well kept, and the older woman was nice, though a bit hyper and pushy. The pool is okay, not very deep, and I can stand in it easily at 1.56 meters tall. Only two people fit under the umbrellas, and they’re hard to open. The rooms are small, and the gas stove is scary, making noises all the time. The shower sometimes stops working, then suddenly runs scalding hot or ice cold. Also, the whole place smells of incense.
