Palazzo Perla

The atmosphere is elegant and peaceful, and the building has been beautifully renovated. There are five rooms on one floor, with a large terrace and veranda upstairs where they serve an excellent breakfast. Our room only had a small window facing an interior space, but the very high vaulted ceilings kept it from feeling claustrophobic. It was quiet since the room didn’t face the street, and the air conditioning was extremely quiet as well. Free parking is available on the surrounding streets, and we even found a space right in front of the entrance.

We only stayed one night at this B&B in central Gallipoli, within easy reach of the historic center. The room was lovely and had the essentials, but there was no window. That wouldn’t have worked for us on a longer stay. We used self-check-in, so we didn’t meet staff apart from the woman who prepared breakfast. Breakfast was excellent and had plenty of options. Given that, I can’t rate the service above three stars.

The junior suite was roomy, comfortable, and quiet, with a comfortable bed. There was a clothesline on the balcony, and the bathroom had a hairdryer and toiletries. Wi-Fi was fast and reliable. The property is recently built, with Easy Rent, a bicycle, scooter, and car rental service, nearby. It’s close to the seafront and train station, and the old town is a 15-minute walk away. On our first morning we got there at 9:30 a.m. The owner let us leave our luggage while the room was being prepared, and we checked in at 10:30 a.m. Breakfast on the terrace was delicious and plentiful, with coffee, cappuccino, latte, tea, juices, pasticciotti, muffins, croissants, biscuits, jams, and yogurt. I read on the property website that a transfer to or from Lecce train station costs €70 each way. I found a shuttle service for a better price.

Ilenia, who I believe is the owner, was incredibly kind when we arrived early. She left the keys downstairs so we could put our things away and freshen up. The room was small, but always clean and tidy. Even when we didn’t have time to straighten up, the girls had made sure our personal things were organized too. We couldn’t make breakfast, which has to be ordered the night before, but they offered to let us have it on the beautiful terrace, store our things, and make coffee. The service was excellent without feeling intrusive. I’d definitely stay here again if I return to Gallipoli.
