We used Gallo Matese as a base for driving to nearby natural spots: Monte Miletto, Campitello Matese, Gallo Lake, Matese Lake, and Letino Lake. The town itself didn't feel especially distinctive. The garden is spacious and cared for, with fruit trees, flowers, and a drinking-water faucet at the lower end. There’s a patio outside with a stone floor, wooden table, and wooden awning, plus a large table indoors. The shared kitchen has a stove and cutlery, and you can reach it without going outside only from the third-floor room. There’s a fireplace with signs of use, though we didn’t try it; the big masonry oven beside it seemed decorative and was mostly used for storage. It’s a pleasant renovated country house with parking for two cars, with room for a third. The lower level has two separate rooms, each with its own bathroom, but they share an outside entrance and also have separate internal doors. Another room is off to the side of the house, with a wooden ceiling. I chose not to stay there because I thought it might be noisier, as another room is above it. The second-floor kitchen area is on the uphill side and has stairs up to the third-floor room. The final room is outside around the corner, directly above the side room. The lower rooms have a double bed, two bedside tables, a cabinet, and a desk. I can only speak for the two adjoining lower-floor bathrooms: they’re basic but not bad, and don’t have bidets.
