Hotel Terminus

The location is great, but that’s the only good thing about this hotel. The rooms are absolutely horrible, horribly outdated and look untouched since at least the 1960s. The beds are hard as rocks, and I promise you won’t sleep well, even if you’re exhausted. The lift is unbelievably tiny, fitting only one or two people, and with luggage it feels very unsafe. The doors don’t lock properly either, so someone could open them from outside in the middle of the night. Don’t stay here unless you want a trip to the past.

The breakfasts are five-star in my opinion, with so many food options, and the receptionist and night porter were the friendliest and most welcoming I’ve ever met. The rooms aren’t Ritz level, but you’re guaranteed a great stay. It’s a brilliant, seriously underrated hotel. You’re only five minutes from the ferry port and Garda’s lovely historic centre, and two minutes from the bus station, with connections to Verona and many lakeside villages.

Paula at reception made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived, and she really seemed made for the job. We loved this old hotel. It dates back to around 1907, so its age shows, but that was part of its charm for me. The room had no view, which turned out to be a good thing. It was clean, and the sheets and towels were changed every day. There’s no pool, but the rooftop terrace looks out over the lake. The location and excellent staff made the stay for us, though I can see it might not suit everyone.

We were just a little away from Garda’s busy centre, right by the lake, which suited us well. Breakfast was good, as other people have mentioned. The receptionist really made our stay: she was welcoming, funny, charming, and so helpful. I never learned her name, but I know she’s married to an electrician. We stayed there a week ago.
