Hotel De Ville

The room was roomy, clean, and comfortable, and the hotel felt peaceful despite being right in the city center. Gabriel was a standout: he greeted us warmly, spoke Portuguese with my boyfriend, and offered local suggestions before we even asked. We tried two of them and loved both. Later, Emerick was on shift at the bar. We came back a little tipsy and talked his ear off, but he was gracious, chatted with us like regulars, and served us drinks. The staff made the stay memorable.

The building has been fully renovated, and the reception is on the first floor. The rooms are very spacious, with options that can sleep five or even seven people. It’s right by the harbor, just behind the old city, and the staff were very helpful.

Dear Hotel De Ville, I can confirm as the second person in the group that nobody asked us how the stay had gone. When we checked out at 11:00 on 01.12, the lady only asked us to pay the city tax. In the restaurant, all we heard was “sorry for the delay” and then a question about whether we wanted anything else. That was it.

A very good-value hotel with high-quality, kind, personal service. It’s ideally placed for the aquarium and the central old town. There’s no parking at the hotel, though several parking areas are a short walk away. McD is right next door. Just a note, my room was a suite.
