Albergo Del Chianti

The location is good, and Matteo was pleasant, but he didn't help when we needed it. We had booked two nights and asked to cancel one, but they refused. The online photos give a misleading impression: the room was clean, though not as nice as shown. This feels more like a 2-star hotel than a 3-star one.

Our 17-day trip around Italy was fantastic, but this hotel and town were the worst part. The place felt old and worn, and there was no reason to stay overnight in Greve. The toilet wouldn't flush, the shower was tiny and unusable, and the walls were so thin that barking dogs kept us up all night. There was blood on the sheets. Only one suitcase fit in the room, and it had to stay on the floor. The hotel ignored my email about parking, and our car was eventually towed. We lost a full day walking to the police station, with no taxi available in Greve. The owner's response was pathetic, self-justifying and blaming us. I feel sorry for the staff, who do everything. I suspect the owner is abusive, and they should all quit.

We really appreciated how the front desk kept our bags for more than four hours after checkout while we did some last-minute sightseeing. The younger man with dark curly hair was amazing and went way beyond what I expected to make our stay good. Breakfast was included and very enjoyable, and there are lots of shops, restaurants, and scenic trails nearby. The trail suggestions are in printouts at reception, though parts run along a very narrow shoulder beside busy roads. Bring plenty of bug spray in warmer months. Getting around took some planning: Ubers don't usually go that far from Florence, but you can find private drivers online if you book ahead. The bus can work depending on where you're headed. Five out of five, and we'd book again.

The staff were really friendly, and we had a lovely, spacious room with a large bathroom and a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was good too. It's a beautiful little hotel, and I'd happily stay again.
