We’ve stayed for three weeks three years running, and have already arranged to come back next year and in 2020. That probably says enough about how happy we are. We think of the cottage bikini as a second home. la canova is in a lovely spot between Castiglione della pescaia and marrina de Grosseto. It’s a very good place to be.

The setting is beautiful and great for anyone traveling with a dog. There’s a private garden, and a gorgeous free beach only 500 meters away. It’s inside a nature reserve, so I saw deer and other animals in the morning; at night, the screech owls were all I could hear. Cleanliness was the main drawback. I’d seen other reviews mention it, and the floors were indeed quite dirty, perhaps because of the tiles. The shower drain smelled unpleasant, and the mattresses weren’t comfortable. Still, the natural surroundings make those issues easier to overlook, and I’d stay here again.

If you want some peace near the coast, this spacious complex has separate bungalows and multi-unit buildings about 700 meters from a fairly quiet beach. The bungalows feel rustic and a bit dated. They suit a practical stay in an exceptional beachfront setting if luxury furnishings aren’t what you’re after. Do budget for the fairly high final cleaning fee, and possible extra charges for bed linen and towels.

There’s no Wi-Fi, which suited me, and the quiet and privacy here felt priceless. The house has just the basics and is a bit spartan, but I found it a good place to step away and focus on myself, my thoughts, and my plans. It’s an isolated spot, about 500 meters from the sea, with a pristine public beach and protected area nearby. A beautiful setting for nature lovers, and that was already clear from the description.

The best things here are the huge green grounds and access to a broad, clean, beautiful wild beach, open to lots of dogs. The property mainly attracts dog owners, who have plenty of space. Most people are considerate, though a small, foolish minority let their dogs roam free on the grounds and beach without knowing how to manage them. I stayed in a cool, well-equipped two-room apartment with an adjoining gazebo. The inside was a little sparsely furnished, and the bathroom could use renovation, but the outdoor space was priceless. It was very peaceful. I saw hares, foxes, woodpeckers, and lots of frogs. A path from the estate leads to the Diaccia Botrona nature reserve, accessible on foot or by bike. The sea is crystal clear. A few suggestions: add two more trash cans along the tree-lined avenue for dog waste, and make a leash rule for guests with pets. It would also help to advertise bike rentals. Wi-Fi was practically nonexistent, and mobile reception was terrible, though very good on the beach. You can live without it, but sometimes you need it. Otherwise, everything was fine.
