Relais Il Grottino

The dinner was a real treat, especially the sublime pork shank and picanha, followed by tiramisu and a delicious apple tart. We also loved the pumpkin gnocchi and lamb tagliatelle, both balanced and full of flavor, and the excellent truffle puffed egg to start. Two glasses of red from a small local winery paired perfectly with the meal. We used the Il Grottino Spa in the afternoon before dinner, and the staff's kindness and courtesy stood out throughout our visit. The chef deserves special mention for giving the stay a magical touch. Relais Il Grottino is right in the center of the small village of Gualdo Cattaneo, though the accommodation and hospitality are spread across several spots. The comfortable but simple B&B rooms sit above Il Grottino Bistro, where Alessandra and the team put a lot of care into everything from breakfast to aperitifs and dinner. The hamburger is a highlight there. Hosteria Il Grottino is just a short walk away. In my view, this spread-out setup works really well. Highly recommended!

The old village has a special feel, as if time had stopped, and the Relais and its Hostaria fit right into it. We spent New Year's Eve here and were very happy with the attentive, personal service, refined food, and comfortable room. The owner takes care over every detail, and we always felt welcomed with a smile. Everything met our expectations, and we left sure we'd come back.

For what they charge, this place feels worth about half as much. The room was small and sparsely furnished, with a cold temperature, a blocked drain, and no bathroom shelf. Breakfast was just a simple request at the counter, with no dedicated buffet. The property feels very poor for a Relais.

Alessia welcomed us warmly, and she was very skilled at giving massages. I visited for a day spa on November 10th. The facility is new, spotless, and well cared for, and the sauna looking out over the Umbrian hills is especially distinctive.
