Cancello Est

Marc and Ivan were wonderfully accommodating, and their local knowledge made the week even better. They suggested places to visit and eat, and even arranged 'Taster meals' in the mountains. There was so much to do that we only managed to see a fraction of it, so we can’t wait to return. We loved the room, especially the beautiful ceiling fresco, and woke up to the amazing Sibilini mountains after a great night’s sleep in a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was just right for the season: fresh local fruit salad with Greek-style yoghurt, breads, cheeses, sliced meats, homemade jams, and local croissants, with cooked breakfast available too. We spent an incredible week at Cancello Est. The area has plenty of good shops, including famous Outlets like Todds, Prada, and Boss. We also swam in the crystal-clear waters of Lake Fiastra in the mountains. After a great meal one evening, we went to the traditional outdoor Italian Opera 'La Traviata' in Macerata and thoroughly enjoyed it.

The area is superb, and the hosts are great. Cancello Est feels like a romantic, incredible holiday spot where you’ve stepped back into Medieval times, but with luxury all around. Definitely add it to your bucket list, you don’t want to miss out!

This beautiful little boutique hotel sits tucked into the town walls, high above the valley in the ancient little town of Gualdo, Marche. The views toward Sarnaro and the Sibilini's are breathtaking, and the rooms are tastefully decorated to a very high standard. Make sure you check out the Rosso Conero!

Breakfast was outstanding. There were pastries and breads, Ivan's homemade jams, freshly chopped fruit salad, yoghurt, juice, and even a fruit smoothie one morning. We also had cheeses, fresh figs, cereals, and tea served in a quaint silver pot with a delicate antique red floral cup and saucer. This was my first trip to Italy, and I stayed five nights at this exquisite guest house in Gualdo, in the Marche region. From the moment I came through the front door, I was blown away by the luxury, style, and elegance. My room was beautiful, with a huge king-size bed dressed in crisp white linen, a stunning en-suite bathroom, a large tiled shower, and a spacious bath. The views from the bedroom were breathtaking. I could have stood at the open door and balcony, looking out over the fields and the distant Sibillini mountains, forever. Each morning started with bleating sheep, chirping birds, and a tractor working the dried sunflower fields below. I wish I could have stayed longer. Thank you, Marc Spendlove and Ivan Kruger, for making my stay as perfect as possible. I felt thoroughly spoilt from the moment I arrived until I left.
