Meridian Hotel

It wasn't very good, though plenty of places are worse.

I stayed at Hotel Meridian with another person for nine days, August 21-30, 2025. The location is excellent, right on the seafront, and the rooms and shared areas were clean. The staff were also consistently courteous and helpful. Breakfast was the biggest problem. The quality was very low and there was almost no variety. I raised it with the deputy manager, but the only change was that fruit juice was brought separately just for my companion and me, as though it were a special treat. Nothing else improved despite repeated requests, so I eventually stopped eating breakfast there. I also recorded a video after asking them to improve it and attached it to this review, so you can judge for yourself. There was no entertainment at all during our nine days, either in the daytime or evening. The poolside loungers and tables were often dirty and poorly maintained, and didn't feel up to the standard of a hotel in this category. So, while the location, room cleanliness, and friendly staff were good, the breakfast was terrible, there was no entertainment, and the outdoor areas weren't cleaned or maintained well enough.

This was the property's email after I called to ask about prices and availability for summer 2025. I've worked with them in previous seasons, too. They offered group rates for half-board, including breakfast and dinner, a welcome cocktail, a choice of two first courses and two main courses, side dishes, water and wine, plus a private beach and musical evenings. If a property takes on groups or individual guests and promises certain services, it should provide what it agreed to, even if that affects the cost. I have no complaints about cleanliness or staff, and the food was fine, although there was much less of it than in previous years. The odd thing was that the offer included water without saying whether it was filtered or bottled, but they wanted to charge us for sparkling water because it came in a bottle. And despite being included in the offer, there were no musical evenings. The icing on the cake came when I returned to pick up the guests. After I'd paid what was due, they asked for an extra €25.00 for the cake served at dinner on August 24th. Dessert was already on the menu, and staff said a cake was planned for all the guests anyway. We'd asked in advance if one guest could blow out her candles before the cake was cut, and nobody mentioned an extra charge, since dessert was included. Definitely not recommended. Maybe it wouldn't be a bad place to turn into a retirement home! Good luck.
