The location worked well for us, quiet but still accessible to everything. We came twice, once in summer and once during the holidays, and the staff were outstanding both times. The rooms were clean, and the beds were the most comfortable of the three places we stayed on our vacation. Breakfast was delicious. On our first visit we had a basic room, which was very plain; the nicer room we had the second time was outstanding. Some of our friends got tired walking the hills up to the hotel, since they weren't used to hill walks. But without that walk back, they would have missed some of the city's most beautiful parts. They also used taxis.

We had lavish rooms with lovely views, ceiling frescoes, and gilded mouldings above the doors. The hotel is historic and sits in an excellent spot in medieval Gubbio. Staff were lovely and helpful, and breakfast in the frescoed room was a treat. Gubbio is a very switched-on tourist town that still feels authentic. Highly recommended.

The triple room I saw was gorgeous, and colleagues told me the quadruple was even more beautiful. In our twin room, the room itself was pretty, but the bathroom was tiny and dimly lit. The shower had only a glass half-wall, no curtain, and water flooded the bathroom floor every time one of us showered.

I was at the hotel for a three-day conference, with about 80 people. The organizers and hotel staff managed it very well. We met in a long, dungeon-like room that was quite narrow, though it wasn't bad. Lunch in the hotel restaurant was good.

The room was okay, but I had a terrible night's sleep. A party in the hotel restaurant went on until 3 am, so we kept the windows shut and the room got very hot. There was no remote for the air conditioning, and the night clerk didn't speak English.
