Hotel Alla Rotonda

A 330 ml Coke costs 3,50 euros, and the rooms were awful. Not a good hotel.

The noise made it nearly impossible to sleep. I could hear the street, the hallway, and every sound from neighboring rooms through the paper-thin walls. The air conditioning also barely worked. When I raised it, they offered no fix and told me to open the windows, which made the noise and discomfort worse. I found the location less central than advertised, with few public transport options or decent restaurants nearby, and the staff were indifferent. Questions and requests got little effort or were dismissed, so I never felt welcome or respected. The room itself was dirty, with dust on surfaces, stained bedding, and a foul smell. The bathroom was in unacceptable shape too, with mold in the shower, broken fixtures, and towels that seemed either unwashed or badly worn. I left frustrated and exhausted, feeling I’d wasted my money. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who cares about cleanliness, comfort, or basic customer service.

I'm on the road now with nowhere to stay tomorrow night, and I'll stay away from this property for good. I had booked without knowing the owner had made a pricing mistake on a popular accommodation reservation service, then arranged travel for four people coming from different parts of my region. Five days later, the owner called with a translator and told me to cancel and pay the cancellation fee, or I wouldn't be welcome or allowed in. The reservation service didn't respond to my questions until departure day, a week after I booked. It had never been notified of the pricing error and couldn't help.

After midnight, I also received what I felt were harassing messages. They accused me of aggressive behavior, though I had no reason to contact the hotel or act inappropriately. I booked through Booking and saw no reason to deal with the hotel directly. The owner called after two missed calls from an Italian number, and I saw the hotel's message in the app. I was starting to write to Booking customer service when he called again. He said there had been a mistake and I needed to cancel. I told him, as I had told customer service, that I didn't want to cancel. He then brought a woman on the call who spoke Bosnian, and I told her the same thing: it wasn't my mistake, and canceling would mean paying the full amount as a penalty. I was clearly told I wouldn't be allowed into the hotel. I said we'd continue communicating through Booking. I'd never had an experience like this before.
