We were only a few minutes late because of a traffic jam, and the lady knew we were delayed. Still, she refused to let us into the apartment and kept the money. I’d give zero if I could. Shame. I’m adding this here because I can’t reply to the comment. We read the other reviews and saw that other people hadn’t been refunded either, so how can you be ashamed to lie? A woman working in the building called you and asked you to let us in, but you refused. Because of you, people with children were left without anywhere to sleep in the middle of the night.

I lost the money I’d paid, and the owner offered no compensation. I’d read that check-in was possible until 23:00, but was turned away with the explanation that it ended at 21:00. The owner also communicates poorly and isn’t friendly.

We had to find another place for the night at extra cost, then spend a day in Venice without accommodation. I wouldn’t recommend this place after what we went through. We were travelling around Italy as a family and had booked this apartment in Venice through Boooking.com. Heavy traffic meant we couldn’t arrive within check-in time, so we called the owner to ask about checking in late. He refused and said to come the next morning. We had no choice but to accept, then urgently find somewhere else because we were travelling with our one-year-old, who had a fever. After a difficult night, I got an email at 12 o’clock saying the owner of Appartmenti Gherbin had cancelled our booking for a no-show. We went there the next morning to ask in person, but he wouldn’t even speak to us. He still kept 65% of the booking amount, even though he had cancelled it himself.

The apartment was clean and in a good location. They don’t know English, which was a big drawback, and wouldn’t let us check in a little earlier. We only wanted to check in, or check out later, not get into the room early.
