Hotel Miralonga

La Maddalena is so beautiful and special, and best explored by boat. The hotel’s view is sensational, breakfast was wonderful, with homemade cakes and fresh, tasty eggs, and the mattresses were very comfortable. I slept well, and there were extra cushions and wool blankets in the cupboard. Just remember, it’s a 3 star hotel.

I’d heard the rates weren’t worth it, and I agree. I was in a bind, though, so stayed for a few days and it was fine. The area is pretty and it’s easy to get into town, even though there’s a gas station next door. I was charged about double what I think it should have cost. The bed was very hard and uncomfortable, and the shower water wasn’t very hot. Checkout is crazy, from 7am to 10am. I’ve never seen that before, and I got yelled at for staying until 11am. Also, they only serve food at breakfast, though you can order delivery on the island.

The reception people were so helpful and friendly, and breakfast was amazing. My room was clean and big, with a nice balcony. The furniture is old but still works. The little aquarium with the turtles is the one thing I disliked. I think keeping them there is torture for the animals.

The rooms feel dated, the shower cubicle is tiny, and the old air-conditioning takes a while to cool things down, so it’s best to leave it running. On the plus side, it’s well located, the staff are friendly, and everything was impeccably clean. A pleasant stay overall.
