Hotel Alpenrose

The heated outdoor pool, dry sauna and deck chair relaxation area were nice, with a steam sauna available if you ask. There’s a SPAR right by the entrance, and the Ski Bus 464 stops outside. It’s the first stop, so the bus is empty, and hotel guests can ride free with a Ski Guest QR code. Otherwise it costs €3 per adult. Parking was a problem for us: only 4-5 outdoor spaces, usually taken, and the elevator parking system can be tricky with a long or large car. The entrance angle is very tight. I couldn’t use it with my Passat B9, so we won’t book here again. The rooms are a bit timeworn but pleasant, cleaned daily, and there isn’t much space for clothes, just one wardrobe without shelves and a dresser. There are no cups or glasses in the rooms, and the internet is very poor. The shower water was cold before 6 a.m. Staff were very nice, though their English was poor. Food was fresh and good quality but a bit repetitive, especially at breakfast. Donuts were missing the day before we left, and on our last day there were no donuts or scrambled eggs. It felt like service slipped as our departure got closer. The package dinners were too late for us and not always suitable for kids. Dinner was scheduled for 7 p.m., but the first one started at 7:30 and usually lasted 1.5 hours. The themed dinner went on for 2.5 hours, which not everyone could manage. After 6-7 hours of skiing, I wanted a quick meal and a chance to rest in the room. Extra orders at dinner were handled chaotically and usually put on one room’s bill, even though three families in three rooms were sharing a table.

We stayed with our two dogs, a Spitz and a Chihuahua, and the hotel took thoughtful care of us: our room was set a little apart from the others, cleaning was arranged around our needs, and the pet fee felt fair and reasonable. The staff were friendly and attentive, from the professional, polite kitchen and cleaning teams to the mother and daughter at the bar, who helped make the place feel welcoming. The owner was around and happy to chat. The four-course dinners with local specialties were excellent, and after skiing we especially enjoyed the spa and heated outdoor pool. The hotel is in the quiet village of La Val, about a 10-15 minute drive from the ski lifts. We also found the ski bus very handy. One day, an elevator outage in the parking area left our car stuck for a few hours. We learned that bus tickets came with our booking package, and the bus stops right at the hotel entrance and drops you closer to the lifts than the parking area. That made getting around much easier. A lovely place for a ski break. Highly recommended.

The village is wonderfully quiet, with little light pollution, so you can see the stars clearly. There’s a nice church right across from the hotel, and the rooms were very clean. We felt at home, as if we’d come to stay with family, and really enjoyed the whole atmosphere. The Christmas dinner was especially memorable: a great menu, lovely decorations and a fantastic feel to the evening. The local food was amazing and well priced, the staff were polite, and the spa was perfect, though three hours of opening time per day wasn’t enough for us. Ski resorts are nearby, with bus transfers available. We had a perfect stay and will come back. I highly recommend it.

Really impressive place. The staff, rooms, wellness area, food at both breakfast and dinner, and cleanliness were all great. I’d recommend it without hesitation. 10/10.
