We’d absolutely come back after a lovely 7 nights at Hotel am Sonneneck. Dinner was very good every evening, and the breakfast buffet had everything we needed. The newly renovated sauna downstairs is beautiful. Our family-run hosts clearly care about the details, and the hillside location gave us quiet and lovely views. The owner and her son were especially helpful from Day 1, offering tips whenever we asked about hiking or shopping. One small suggestion: the music in the Speisesaal could fit dinner better. We sometimes had German Schlager or a lot of classic rock guitar playing. Maybe a Spotify playlist with upbeat instrumental music, kept at a comfortable volume, would work well. The spa was even prettier in person than it looked in the pictures, with two saunas, a Turkish bath, and an outdoor hot tub beneath the stars. A dream. It’s also a lovely place to switch off and enjoy some quiet, and the food is creative, varied, and amazing.

The food was excellent, and we really appreciated the wellness center and the helpful staff. We spent three happy days here. It’s a quiet, well-kept place, and Merano’s center is easy to reach by public transport or even on foot.

We were sorry when our week here came to an end. Our balcony room was very clean, with a fantastic view over Merano that looked especially amazing in the evening. The hotel is well placed for walking and cycling, and the staff were incredibly friendly, always smiling. The spa and pool were inviting and well kept. And the food was divine, we’ve never eaten so well. I can’t think of anything to criticize, and would highly recommend staying here.
