Casagrande-Grosshaus

The restaurant is the weak point for me. The hotel sits on the main road on the edge of Bolzano, in an old but well-kept building. I've stayed in two of its buildings; the newer one was better, though still not perfect. The rooms are compact and not very convenient for a long stay. In summer, each time I checked in I had to ask for a fan. The staff were friendly and cooperative.

The rooms and facilities are basic, but the staff are really pleasant, and there's a restaurant right below the rooms. It's easy to reach from Bolzano and has plenty of parking. I think it's good value, and the low Google rating seems unfair, though I'd personally give it 4/5.

Breakfast was the biggest surprise for me. I arrived at 8:45 and the table still had plenty to choose from: bread, croissants, juice, milk, honey, ham and cheese. Our table had our room number on it, and a waiter came over to ask what kind of caffè we wanted. I'd read a lot of complaints online, but I thought breakfast was amazing. The building and room are old-fashioned but functional. My room was clean and warm enough, with a sink and table. The bathroom was shared, though the shower was private and had lovely hot water. I booked by phone, and the staff were very nice at check-in and gave me all the information I needed. The ground-floor restaurant is also where breakfast is served. For the price, it's a good option near Bolzano. The train takes about seven minutes, though it doesn't run that often, and staying here costs much less than a hotel in the city. I had a very positive stay. Maybe they've been making changes after the bad reviews. Hope this helps :D

After a long drive, we arrived tired in the evening and were met with such kindness and helpfulness. Dinner and breakfast were wonderful, and the staff were lovely to us throughout our stay. In the morning we walked up the mountain and found the most beautiful view. What a lovely area. We'd really love to come back!
