I end up here practically every weekend. There’s a pool, a sauna, a barbecue gazebo, and a terrace with a view across the whole Vinci area, all surrounded by greenery. It’s a luxury villa in a remarkable spot, and people even travel from far away to watch Montalbano. One thing to know: even though I know the owner, you can only use the castle if you rent an apartment and stay as a tenant. Well worth it for a break from the city.

We left and went home miserable. The suite was downright filthy. We’d heard lovely stories from family and seen all the glowing reviews here and elsewhere, so we booked a holiday for September 2017. When we arrived, we found out the place had changed hands earlier that year. The new owners were renting apartments for permanent residents, while tourists were put wherever they could find space. Nobody had told us this when we booked. Sitting by the pool, we felt like we were in somebody’s backyard. Such a disappointment.

The owner is fantastic, and the prices are fair. It’s a lovely, very peaceful place to stay, with a nice pool, though it isn’t very big.

A really pleasant apartment, spacious and with a warm welcome. The residence is close to Florence, Pisa, and Siena, and would be ideal for anyone who enjoys cycling.
