Hotel La Scogliera

The location worked perfectly for us, with a lovely beach within walking distance and Sestri Levante and Chavari just a five-minute drive away. We also loved the rooms: clean, neat, and beautiful, with their original 70s floors. The staff were so kind and helpful. Coming here was one of our best decisions. Highly recommend it, don't miss out!

Breakfast on the terrace was delicious and filling, and the view made it even better. We found the staff really kind and helpful, too. The room was clean and comfortable, just right for unwinding for a few days. A lovely place for a holiday, with a great atmosphere.

The view from the rooms was amazing, and you could hear the sea. Breakfast was okay, though it could have been a bit better. We booked the last available room, which turned out to have two rooms. Everything was clean, but the air felt too damp and the rooms were cold. I had to use the air conditioning to warm both rooms, and that took a few hours each day.

What stayed with me most was the view and the sound of the waves from bed. Portofino was off to the left, with the rest of the Italian Riviera stretching to the right, and the hotel sits just 3 meters from the cliffs above the sea. We could see the moon reflected on the water and the sun going down over mountains only a couple of km from the beach. September felt perfect, with fewer crowds, less stress, and more choice. After 2 years, hearing those waves again was such a pleasure. The beach is about a 4 minute walk, unless you're bringing dogs. Even in these odd times it had umbrellas and chaise lounges, plus a little restaurant serving simple, tasty food and cocktails. The town center is a short walk away too, with more upscale restaurants. I found the other guests friendly and easily chatted with families from Ireland, Holland, Flanders, France, and the UK. The view more than made up for the first impression, by 100x. We can't wait to return, this time without the dogs, though they were very welcome. This isn't a hotel full of luxury or golden ornaments. It's got normal amenities, a plentiful continental breakfast, and a view that leaves you speechless. The whole staff, from reception to servers to housekeeping, made us feel like family. Breakfast had all the Italian basics, from croissants (brioche) to yogurt and fruit.
