Hilton Garden Inn Lecce

My wife stayed at this hotel in Italy for a 10-day business trip. I went with her for two days, then returned home. During her stay, a housekeeping employee, G. R., brought slippers to the room after she requested them. Soon after, that same employee used the hotel’s internal system to get my wife’s full name and surname, then contacted her on social media. This is a serious breach of privacy, personal data protection, and guest safety. Staff using guest information for personal purposes is completely unacceptable. How can sensitive details be so easy to access, and how is this tolerated at a hotel that claims to offer professional service? The incident left my wife feeling unsafe and uncomfortable in a place that should protect guests’ privacy and security. Hotel staff should respect strict confidentiality and clear ethical boundaries. This conduct clearly falls short. We reported it at check-out, but reception did not take the complaint seriously. We asked to speak with the hotel manager and were told the manager was “not available.” When we asked reception to contact the manager, the response was dismissive and unprofessional. They said they could not call the manager and would simply tell the same employee, G. R., about the complaint. That response was extremely concerning. A privacy and security complaint should not be treated so casually or passed back to the employee involved. For a hotel operating in Italy, where GDPR and data protection laws are strict, this is alarming. Guests should never have to wonder whether staff are misusing their personal information. The experience has significantly damaged our trust in this hotel, and we would strongly warn future guests to consider the privacy and safety risks before staying.

The restaurant, bar, and swimming facilities were good, and I had a comfortable bedroom. I stayed through a Tui bed and breakfast package holiday, 21-25 September, and had a lovely time. The hotel’s staff, both women and men, were professional, friendly, and helpful. I only wish my Italian were better 🙂. Special thanks to Gigi at the bar for all his help. The “pink spritz” was excellent 🙂. I’d stay here again.

The staff were nice, accommodating, and knew Lecce well. The hotel is in a residential area with a few caffee, restaurants, bakery, charcuterie stores, and a mini market. It’s off the beaten track, but only 15-20 mins on foot from the main attractions in the old town. Free parking outside was very important to us. The building badly needs updates and repairs. The carpets in all three rooms we had were stained, sticky, and felt dirty. The towels and bedding felt very cheap, not “Hilton quality.” Two showers barely worked, and one leaked into the room. We had to change rooms on the last night because of the smell. The mattress shook like jello, so if your partner breathed harder or shifted a little, the whole bed moved. The internet was spotty, like it was only there to tick a box, and regular VPN connections were blocked. I needed a secure connection for work. This is probably one of the worst Hilton properties I’ve stayed in over the past 20 years. It doesn’t do the Hilton brand any honors.

I’ve stayed here a couple of times. Once they gave me a free upgrade, which was nice. The hotel has a big, modern lobby and lots of art on display. There’s free, unguarded parking on the surrounding streets. Breakfast was good, and the waffle batter had an acceptable consistency.
