Wow!

I was there for a live improvisational theater performance and had something to eat, but I didn’t see the guest rooms, so I can’t comment on them. The rest of the place left me disappointed. The outdoor area seemed poorly maintained, with hazards that could injure someone, especially a child. Seating was sparse and uncomfortable, just hay bales covered with blankets or wicker chairs. A sickly, dirty dog with open wounds wandered freely around the courtyard. I only glimpsed the interiors, which looked bare and uninteresting. The three separate bathrooms for men, women, and disabled guests were the one positive; they were quite clean. The menu was limited to plain food like mortadella sandwiches, fried meatballs, and meat in tomato sauce. None of it sounded appetizing or interesting, and it seemed like food that should be ready quickly. The quality also seemed poor. I paid €5 for a small, dry sandwich with one slice of mortadella. I’m no critic, but I can tell when food is good, and this wasn’t. When I pointed out the menu listed it at €3, I got a terse “...oh, yes... right...”. Some of the paper placemats, with the menu written in marker, were dirty and stained. Service at the table took far too long and spoiled the time with our friends, who were frustrated too. We were about ten people in the whole place ordering food, yet the small sandwich took about half an hour, and the rest came ten or fifteen minutes later. Also, items paid for in cash came without a receipt. After the owner’s “colorful” reply, which sounded unaccustomed to criticism lately and was somewhat unkind in its wording, I’d think carefully before visiting. My review seems to sum up earlier negative ones, which got more dignified and elegant responses. In any case, Oronzo can enjoy his “wonderful” masseria in peace. I’ll tell others who have nothing better to do not to bother him!
