Hotel da Peppe

Our room was so noisy we couldn’t sleep, so the hotel moved us to another one. There were no facilities for making tea or coffee, and the staff were very unfriendly and rude. The hotel itself was quirky and reasonably clean, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Dinner was absolutely disgusting. After a few days we gave up and went to eat elsewhere. My sister is vegetarian, but they just didn’t understand that, and the food she was given was appalling.

Breakfast in the garden was a highlight, among mature jasmine and banana trees. Pepe, the artist and chef, has given this lovely, quirky hotel his own distinctive touch. The beach is just a stone’s throw away, and a wonderful waitress there kept our drinks topped up. Our room was clean, comfortable and quiet, though it could have been larger. That may just have been luck of the draw, as most rooms are quite spacious. It’s a good fit for couples or anyone wanting a relaxed, quiet place without noisy entertainment or crowds of children.

We came across this lovely hotel by chance. The room was basic but did the job, and we had a bottle of wine on the balcony while watching the world go by. Great location, friendly staff and good food. We visited in early 2019.

The way I was treated put me off this place completely. At check-in, I was told about breakfast. When I came down the next morning and sat down, a breakfast staff member announced loudly in front of everyone that I wasn’t entitled to eat and that it would cost 10 euro. I paid, but all I got was a stale bread roll and two slices of ham. They gave me no receipt, claiming their machine was broken. Yeah, right. I’d never go back to this hotel or this tourist trap of a town. Skip it. It’s not Taormina or Giardini.
