Hotel Abetaia

The rooms feel intimate despite being large and modern, which suits this small hotel well. The staff put a lot of care into both the hotel and its excellent restaurant. It's a great base for a trip to 5 terre, or for visiting Levanto and Spezia. Prices at the Michelin restaurant are somewhat steep, but still perfectly acceptable.

We came for the pesto-making demonstration and dinner, and the evening was fabulous. The hosts were kind and gracious, and made it feel special. The restaurant has a really romantic atmosphere. It's tucked out in the countryside, and the drive up is beautiful. What a great find!

Sonia cooks fresh food with top ingredients, and we loved the kitchen. The restaurant girls were friendly and helpful, and Sonia's husband knows a lot about good wines, so try some. Breakfast had fresh fruit, cereals, and fresh bread. Our room was clean and spacious, with its own terrace, and the bathroom design, especially the shower, was lovely. Very good hotel and highly recommended for a stop on the way to 5 terre. Definitely worth booking.

Michaeli, the owner, knows his wine and is a Harley fan. He was charming and generous, and after our long drive he poured us a beer and brought out furniture so we could sit in the sun. We spent days walking around and taking the train, using the parking passes they gave us for the station 6 km away. The location is excellent for seeing the Cinque Terre without staying in one of the towns. The food was excellent, especially the seafood, and our modern room had a great shower and bed. The hotel and restaurant were the best of our stay in Italy, among many nice places. We'd stay again for the food, hospitality, and convenience. Truly outstanding!
