Trulli e Cummerse

The apartment is spacious, with a kitchen and two bathrooms, and the setting and scenery are top marks. It’s easy to get to the area’s tourist sights. The bathrooms have been modernized, and the hosts kept out of the way but were helpful when we needed them. The furniture is dated and could use an update, and it smells damp.

The best thing here is the countryside setting, with nature and quiet all around. The apartment itself is very bare: basic furniture, no hairdryer, and no coffee machine, only a traditional coffee maker, with no welcome coffee either. The mattresses weren’t specified, and the pillows were unacceptable. Cleaning was just about adequate, with dust on the fridge and in the closets. We’re back for a second year, spending a wonderfully relaxing week here. The owners are kind and welcoming, and the price is good for what you get. The trulli have been renovated nicely and have all the comforts, with a comfortable temperature inside. It’s right in the heart of the Itria Valley, making all the popular places easy to reach. Five stars.

We spent two nights in Trullo Piccolo at Agriturismo Il Ciliegeto, beside the owners’ house. They were very kind, and the outside of the trullo is gorgeous. Inside was a different story. The kitchen was very nice, though we never used it, but the bedroom and bathroom lacked care in the details and tasteful furnishings. Right when we arrived, black soot was falling from an open pipe sticking out of the ceiling onto the tiny bathroom floor. The sink was so small, and there was no soap dish for the bar of soap they provided, which kept falling into the sink or onto the floor. The bathroom had been cleaned, but still didn’t really feel clean. The bedroom is very large, but the bland 1990s furniture made it feel makeshift and unwelcoming. At least the radiators had been timed just right, so the temperature was perfect. I hope the owners redecorate the “Trullo piccolo” room, because as it is, the inside doesn’t do justice to the trulli’s charm.
