I’ve stayed here twice now, and this visit was just as good as my one in 2015. The beautiful surroundings and friendly, helpful staff make the place feel warm and welcoming. The two waiters who looked after us at dinner and for drinks were a real credit to Palazzo Loup, and the kitchen deserves plenty of praise for the gorgeous food. Thanks to everyone for a wonderful stay, I’ll definitely come back next time I’m in Italy.

Getting there means taking a winding mountain road, so the trip can take a little longer. But the place is stunning, and the food was amazing when we went back for lunch on another day. I first visited for a wedding a few weeks earlier, and our waiter was friendly and very helpful. I’d return anytime.

The breakfast was all right, though it didn’t meet what I’d expect from a four star hotel. My room also badly needed restoration; it looked as if nothing had been done for 30 years. Maybe the hotel really was worthy of four stars a long time ago.

The room I got was rather basic, and the Wi-Fi wasn’t working properly, perhaps because our group was large. Still, it was a very pleasant stay: the palace has an interesting history, lovely views and a swimming pool, the food was excellent, and the staff were extremely kind and helpful.

We had another excellent meal at this peaceful country house hotel. Palazzo Loup sits high on a mountain, with a breathtaking view down the valley toward Bologna.
