Hotel Don Diego

A car is essential if you want to see the island. Walking anywhere isn’t really possible. The hotel runs a transfer to Porto San Paolo for 10 euros round trip per person, though the last one back is at 9:30 pm, which feels a bit early. The hotel itself is in a beautiful spot with amazing views. The rooms are dated, as other reviews mention, but spacious and clean, with plenty of hot water, a comfortable bed and good air con. There’s no rush for sun beds, the pool is a good size, and the hotel’s private beach is sandy, clean and has clear water. Staff at reception, the restaurant and the bar were all exceptional, friendly and courteous. The menu was varied and tasty, which is high praise from a fussy eater. I’d recommend it for a relaxing break. Special thanks to Aldo, who was just super. I’ll certainly return.

The property was covered in flowers, and the whole place smelled amazing. The views were out of this world, though it’s a little away from other things. Our room was cute, but the shower head gave us trouble and the power went out. The key was quite complicated too. The staff were awesome, the on-site restaurant was great, and we had an amazing stay.

The shared spaces and pool were amazing, and the staff were excellent. Our room, though, was very average. It was dark, with one small window and poor lighting. The terrace was tiny and had no privacy, just a trellis separating it from the next room. It didn’t meet expectations.

Hotel Don Diego surpassed what I expected. It has a peaceful atmosphere that’s ideal for relaxing and switching off. My room was clean, comfortable and well cared for, and breakfast was good. The sea views are beautiful, with direct access to a quiet beach. The hotel has an understated, rare charm, elegant without being showy, and feels genuinely welcoming. Staff were courteous, helpful and professional throughout. I’d highly recommend it for a serene, refined escape in Sardinia.
