La Ferriera

We enjoyed every minute here. The setting and location were amazing, with beautiful waterfalls on the property, and it felt like authentic Tuscany. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the cooking class with Lorenzo was a highlight. The food was delicious, and the stay exceeded our expectations. Only issue was that the hot water was occasionally limited. We hope to return.

The hotel’s setting is amazing, but that was the only good part for us. Management was terrible, the staff unfriendly, and it was probably the dirtiest hotel I’ve stayed in. We had to ask the cleaners to vacuum. The food was nothing special, the shower was tiny and moldy, there was no AC even though it was 39°C, and everything felt very dated. I’ve spent a lot of time in Tuscany, where people are usually the best and the food is world-class. None of that was true at this hotel.

The rooms, renovated from the old milling factory, were comfortable and nicely done, and the location is beautiful. Staff were friendly too. But the required meal package was terrible and way overpriced for what you got. We had to pay for water, and dinner was bland, nothing like what I expected from “Authentic Tuscan Cuisine.” We complained about the food every night, and people were picking basil from the planters to add flavor. Fix the menu. I get better Italian food at a diner in the USA.

You’ll need a car to get to and from this remote property, perched at the top of a Tuscan hill, since there’s no convenient public transport. If you want peace and quiet and a chance to relax and unplug, though, it’s a good spot. The property has a rustic feel, and the service was very good, with attentive staff.
