The friendly staff tried to help, but they barely spoke English, which made it hard to understand what was available for breakfast. We stayed two nights, arriving late on the first. There was no menu, just staff asking what we wanted. From what they listed, we ordered coffee, orange juice and croissants, thinking that was all they offered. During neither breakfast did anyone mention anything else. At checkout, we saw another English-speaking family having trouble ordering too, but they managed to get eggs. We hadn't known eggs were an option. A four-star hotel should at least have a basic breakfast menu to explain the choices if the staff don't speak English. The bathroom in our two-bedroom apartment needs renovation. It's dated, the shower is tiny, the handle was broken and the toilet seat was barely attached. No air conditioning in the Tuscan July heat is also hard to square with a four-star rating. There wasn't much character to the place, which felt like somewhere to sleep. At best, the hotel was three-star quality, not four. We paid 240 euros a night for the two-bedroom apartment in July, which was decent value given it was high season.

We hadn't had a room cleaning in four days, and ended up using towels as toilet paper. There was fungus everywhere, the shower was so small you kept touching it, and the pool was very poorly cleaned. Breakfast was awful, with almost no choice and out-of-date yoghurt. The staff weren't very nice and didn't do what we asked. One word: gross. I'd never recommend this place. If you're coming to the region, go to another hotel.

For a four-star hotel, the breakfast was very poor. We had to pay extra for a plate of fruit and a very basic serving of cheese with salami. The jam and Nutella came in little plastic containers, the kind you can get cheaply at the supermarket.

I travel all the time for work and pleasure, and staying here felt like putting my feet up in my own living room and just enjoying the day. The atmosphere was amazing, and the owner is a true enthusiast. The building and its surroundings are superb. No contest !!!!!!
