Soca Tower stands in Lovere's historic center, a village considered one of Italy's most beautiful. The tower began as a medieval fortification with imposing walls. In the 15th century it belonged to the Celeri family, Lovere's old ruling family, and served for both representation and defense. Later, the upper part was incorporated into an extension of the Church of San Giorgio. It's a lovely tower to look at without ending up with a stiff neck.

The historic center is quiet and well looked after. Among the places to explore is Soca Tower, an old 18th-century building. The ancient public fountain is only a short walk away and is worth a look too.

Just a few steps from the Lungolago, in the city center, stands La Torre Soca. This monumental tower belonged to the ancient Celeri family and dates to the 18th century. In the 16th century it was transformed into the apse of the Church of San Giorgio.

Restoration and consolidation in recent years have added lighting that makes the tower visible from far away, even from the opposite shore of the lake. Its size and height make it stand apart from the surrounding streets, and it features in original light displays across the amphitheater in Piazza del Porto and Lovere's main buildings for holidays and anniversaries. Only the base remains of the Celeri family's old noble tower. They later moved to the "new castle" by the street named after them, but no trace of that castle remains. Changes to the façade show how the tower was incorporated into the Church of San Giorgio, which stands higher up and farther from the lake, with the tower forming its apse. There is a route down through the structure from the sacristy and connected rooms to a spot beside the tower, at the top of the steep sandstone stairs on its right. The passage is closed to the public, though, so visitors can't access it.

Lake Iseo is truly beautiful, and there's plenty to see around the quaint, welcoming village. If the weather turns bad, you can while away the day in its many bars and shops.
