It’s a very charming place, and I would have loved to stay there. But when I asked a simple question about New Year’s Eve, the man I spoke with was extremely rude. He said, “Check on booking,” and “because I can’t tell you anything at all.” His tone was arrogant and annoyed, and he didn’t even say hello or goodbye. I don’t recommend it on that basis. I think the bare minimum for people dealing with the public is to be kind and willing to provide information.

It’s a great place to relax, with olive trees all around, a small but adequate pool and a playground for children. The accommodation is spacious and comfortable, in an exceptional setting. Cell phones don’t work there, except for my children’s phones on Ho.Mobile, but that does make it truly relaxing. Since it’s on a hillside, it doesn’t get quite as unbearably hot on these days, and open windows bring in enough air. There are, though, lots of insects.

Lovely owner, beautiful views and surroundings, and a lovely garden, especially by the ground-floor apartment. The bedrooms get nice and dark behind the shutters. Lucca is 20 minutes away.

That pretty much says it all: I’d happily return to Stabbiano.

The owners are warm and helpful, and the place is surrounded by nature. Just not the best fit for a beach holiday.
