The old wooden steps at Torre delle Ore make for quite a climb, but the panoramic outlook over Lucca and the Tuscan hills is breathtaking. You can also stand beside the still-working 18th-century clock mechanism, which is unforgettable. A hidden gem!

The creaky wooden stairs are part of the fun, and I never felt unsafe climbing them. This tower is a less common choice than the other one in Lucca, and it has its own character, different from Guigini. The views across the area and toward Guigini are great. On a weekday, there's no need to worry about booking.

There's a small entry fee, and after climbing the 200 steps you're rewarded with fantastic views over the city.

It takes some effort to reach the top, but the 360° views of Lucca make the climb worthwhile. The bell clangs loudly and shakes the place, which is quite intense.
