Il Pozzo di Santa Zita

I stayed in the green room, a clean and charming apartment with lots of atmosphere. It’s right in the center of Lucca, close to all the city’s sights. I had very good contact with the owner. Nothing to complain about.

The pink room was so cozy, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. We loved the location too, just steps from a bike rental shop and the main street, but peaceful and quiet once inside. Thanks, Rebecca, for the warm welcome and great dining recommendations. Looking back, we wish we’d spent three nights in Lucca instead of busy, tourist-crowded Florence. We’ll definitely return.

On the day I was due to arrive, the host messaged to say check-in had to be before 7 pm because they close then. I was surprised and sent a screenshot of my booking, which said there would be self check-in after 7 pm. The host replied that she would only allow it if I paid the city tax of 3 euro per person by credit card before arrival, otherwise we wouldn’t be allowed into the property. I found that unfriendly and ridiculous. I’ve stayed in hundreds of guest houses and never heard anything like it. The unit was very hot when we arrived because the heater was on. I asked by text where the A/C remote was, but the host never answered. Driving to the house was the worst part. It’s in the old town, where you need permission to enter, which the host requested from the city. She sent instructions for entering and leaving through the same gates to avoid a penalty, but they were poorly written and impossible to follow. I ended up leaving through a different gate. When I asked her to call the city and explain what had happened so I could avoid a penalty, she refused. The room itself was nice and clean.

The location is hard to beat, less than 50 steps from Lucca’s main street. Shops, food, and city walks are all just a few minutes away. We stayed in the Pink Room at entrance level. It was quite large, nicely styled, and had a modern shower and a high-quality coffee machine. Cleaning was 100% perfect, including under the sofas and above the wall paintings and shower. Rebecca, the manager, was extremely friendly and the service was superb. There was just one small window in our room, so daylight was limited. The room lights made up for it, and it didn’t bother me much.
